Seiya Kusano, a writer and former member of the Investigation Department of the Metropolitan Police Department, visits Kushiro City, Hokkaido. In a forest near Lake Akan, Kusano is warned by Mina, a woman of the Ainu tribe, about the threat of brown bears. He is also reunited with Shirou, an inspector from the National Police Agency, with whom he has a history. He learns that a senior Hokkaido police officer was attacked and killed by a brown bear in the nearby mountains. Shirou becomes suspicious of his death and asks for Kusano's cooperation, saying that it was just before he was to confide in him about the scandalous activities of the Hokkaido police. However, just as the investigation begins, Kusano is taken away to the police station...
